Little Dog Island declared free of feral cats

A project to eradicate feral cats from Little Dog Island has been declared a success. Little Dog Island is a remote 83-hectare outer island of the Furneaux Group in Bass Strait, to the north-east of Tasmania and home to colonies of a variety of seabirds, including short-tailed shearwaters and now, returning Little penguins.

Creating opportunities and reducing red tape for landowners and deer hunters

We’re simplifying deer hunting licence and permits for landowners. These changes follow 836 submissions to the 2025 Tasmanian Deer Management Review. Feedback supported simpler rules and more access to deer to help control numbers and reduce their impact on the environment and agricultural land.
