On 1 December 2021 our name officially changed to the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania (NRE Tas).
The name reinforces the Department’s continued responsibilities and commitment to environmental management and sustainability.
It provides the Department with an overarching identity under which Divisions can unite in delivering a sustainable Tasmania.
The Department’s new name is reflective of the feedback received during consultation with staff.
Our one-page strategic plan developed throughout 2021 embraces our role as stewards of future Tasmania and sets out our priorities in achieving our purpose of delivering a sustainable Tasmania.

The one-page plan was developed over time to detail each of the elements and bring them to life.
The 2021-2026 strategic plan is driving a re-alignment of our organisational structure to facilitate delivery of our strategic priorities.
The establishment of EPA as a stand-alone Agency came into effect on 1 December 2021, and in 2022 some forestry functions will transition from State Growth to the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania.
There will be no job losses or changes to employment conditions resulting from any organisational structural changes.
