​The Draft Tasmanian Salmon Industry Plan is an enduring, long-term plan that will provide strategic direction and certainty for industry and communities into the future. 

The government’s vision is for a sustainable industry into the future that all Tasmanians can be proud of – one that is economically successful, environmentally responsible, socially beneficial and well-managed. 

The purpose of the plan is to:

• Identify a clear vision, priority outcomes and strategic pathways for management of Tasmanian salmon aquaculture into the future;
• Improve transparency and coordination of salmon (and related) aquaculture management activities in Tasmania; 
  
• Build on the strong foundation the industry and supply chain partners have ​established; and 
• Enable future growth that meets expected standards of environmental and ​social responsibility.
  

The draft plan contains a strategic framework to guide government’s long-term priorities for the salmon aquaculture industry and provides scope for continued response and interactions with industry, supporting related businesses, and the wider community. It also includes a separate detailed workplan that will guide implementation priorities over the near, medium and longer term.

The development of the Draft Plan has included an extensive process of public engagement. This includes engagement independently delivered by the Blue Economy Cooperative Research Centre through the 2022 Tasmanian Salmon Symposium in May and follow-up conversation series in August. The Government’s consideration of the Legislative Council Government Administration Committee ‘A’ Report on Finfish Farming in Tasmania has also been an influential aspect of the Plan development process and the feedback received on the Discussion Paper, which includes a submission index.
