Electronic conveyancing - expanded scope in Tasmania

Land dealings supporting most sales and purchases of property (transfers) are now able to be lodged using electronic conveyancing in Tasmania.

Electronic conveyancing became available in Tasmania in August 2024, with Property Exchange Australia Ltd (PEXA) having been approved to provide and operate an Electronic Lodgement Network (ELN) in Tasmania. Initially only mortgages and discharges of mortgage were able to be lodged with the Land Titles Office using the National Electronic Conveyancing system. The inclusion of transfers in February 2025 is part of what will be ongoing work to expand the scope of electronic conveyancing.

Using electronic conveyancing allows parties to electronically prepare and lodge land dealings and exchange funds. This removes the need for paper documents and paper cheques.

National Electronic Conveyancing is efficient, accurate and secure.  Information is drawn directly from the Land Titles Register which is expected to reduce errors and provide increased levels of security and rigour in the streamlined conveyancing process.

The availability of electronic conveyancing in Tasmania aligns with the regulatory framework for National Electronic Conveyancing which has been developed and maintained by all Australian jurisdictions through their participation in the Australian Registrars’ National Electronic Conveyancing Council.
