Public consultation is now open on the draft Strata Titles Amendment Bill 2026, which proposes amendments to Tasmania’s Strata Titles Act 1998.
Strata living has changed considerably since the Act was introduced almost 30 years ago, with developments now varying significantly in size, design, use and complexity.
The proposed reforms aim to create a clearer, more flexible and contemporary framework for strata developments and make strata living simpler, fairer and more transparent.
Proposed changes cover a range of areas including:
the identification and management of common property
access to body corporate information and records
maintenance planning, by-laws,
dispute resolution
meeting procedures.
The reforms also recognise that different types of strata developments may require different regulatory arrangements, rather than applying the same requirements to every development.
The draft Bill follows a review of Tasmania’s strata legislation and previous consultation with the community and industry.
Property owners, residents, strata managers, industry professionals and other interested members of the community are encouraged to review the draft Bill and accompanying Information Paper and provide feedback.
Submissions close at 11:55 pm on Sunday 25 October 2026.
