Feedback received from the first phase of consultation on the draft Primary Produce Safety (Horticulture Produce) Regulations has been analysed. This feedback has helped shape a revised version of the draft regulations. These are now open for public consultation until 5:00pm on 30 July 2026.
Submissions from phase one have guided a simpler, more practical approach.
It sets out a system that supports safe food production while reducing unnecessary cost and duplication for growers.
The draft proposes a tiered model, allowing growers to choose the model that best suits their scale of production.
These changes will help Tasmania to adopt national Primary Production and Processing Standards for berries, leafy vegetables and melons. It also aligns us with national requirements, helping producers maintain their market access.
