Help us plan effective Calicivirus releases, report rabbits

Biosecurity Tasmania have created an online reporting form where anyone can report a rabbit infestation or register their interest for calicivirus release on their property.

The information you provide will help Biosecurity Tasmania plan calicivirus releases when the environmental conditions are right.

The form asks for:

  • How many rabbits were seen

  • Property details

  • What rabbit control methods are being used

For long-term results, the best way to manage rabbits is to use Integrated Pest Management (IPM). This means using several control methods together. They are most effective when carried out across neighbouring properties.

An IPM can include:

  • warren ripping,

  • shooting,

  • poisoning,

  • exclusion fencing and

  • habitat removal, when used in appropriate circumstances.

These methods work well alongside calicivirus releases. They can also be used at any time of year, giving land managers and communities more options to control rabbits.
