How well do you know your built heritage places?
We are shining a light on some of Tasmania’s most significant built heritage in a new series called ‘Heritage Highlights’ to be published on our Facebook page.
Built in 1936, this building was designed by Tasmanian architects Roy Smith and HS East with a steel frame, sleek curves, and neon-lit spire reflecting the futuristic vision.
Standing in the Launceston CBD, Holyman House was commissioned by a group of ground-breaking northern Tasmanian transport businesses. It has been home to Wm. Holyman and Sons, Australian National Airways, and Ansett Airlines.
Holyman House is a largely intact example of an Inter- war Moderne Art Deco office building,

Heritage Tasmania Registration Manager John Stephenson said Discover Heritage allows you to easily explore heritage places of State significance listed on the Tasmanian Heritage Register.
“You can customise your search using multiple criteria including – location, site types, architectural styles, chronological periods, by the builder or designer and you can also search for notable people and organisations,” he said.
“Discover Heritage can be accessed on desktop or also on your smart phone, making it easy to learn more about places while out walking or touring.”
