Tasmania is one step closer to the commencement of our Container Refund Scheme, Recycle Rewards.
TasRecycle Limited has been announced as Scheme Coordinator and TOMRA Cleanaway Tasmania will be Network Operator. The Scheme will have a split responsibility involving the Scheme Coordinator to administer it, and a Network Operator to operate the network.
Once Recycle Rewards starts, people will receive a 10c refund for any eligible beverage container returned to a designated container refund point in Tasmania. There will be 49 container refund points across the state, making Recycle Rewards accessible for all Tasmanians.
With beverage containers making up to 45 per cent of the state’s litter it is estimated Recycle Rewards will reduce this by almost 50 per cent and double recycling rates of eligible containers which will reduce waste going into landfill and sustain the environment for future generations.
Now these roles are filled, mobilisation of Recycle Rewards is currently underway which includes the deployment of a network of refund points and automated depots for logistics.
The scheme is anticipated to officially begin in mid-2025.
More information is available on the Recycle Rewards page.
