Modernising Tasmania's fisheries legislation

A Review of the Living Marine Resources Management Act 1995 is underway. The Act is the principal Act that promotes and supports the sustainable management of living marine resources in Tasmania.

The review will examine approaches to improve how we manage our important marine resources and consider whether the Act is flexible and responsive to future risks and challenges, including climate change and global market change.

The review will include a two-stage consultation process. Stage one will see the release of a discussion paper to facilitate targeted engagement with key stakeholders. The second stage is a public consultation opportunity on a draft white paper by October 2022.
The output of the review will be a white paper to the Government by mid-2023, which will propose a future pathway to modernise the legislative regime that achieves desired marine resources management objectives.
