To help farmers build resilience and better prepare for managing seasonal conditions, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania (NRE Tas) has begun publishing monthly Seasonal Conditions Insight snapshots.
Starting with the October insights, these updates provide timely, practical information to support on-farm decision-making and drought planning.
The Tasmanian farming community faced some tough drought conditions in 2024. These monthly insights are part of our ongoing support to help farmers plan ahead, adapt, and strengthen their resilience to future challenges.
A range of tools are used in the assessment of seasonal conditions, including the newly developed ‘Weather Now’ Map Live developed by the Natural Assets Spatial Intelligence Team within NRE Tas.
‘Weather Now’ delivers near real-time, high-resolution weather monitoring across Tasmania. It is designed to support land managers, researchers and the public and is freely accessible online.
The Department’s new Seasonal Conditions webpages also provide information on the phased drought decision-making framework used in Tasmania along with resources, tips and strategies to assist farmers manage seasonal conditions. The webpages also outline where you can find out about Government programs for business risk planning or financial support.
