New deer hunting access opportunities

We are making it easier for recreational deer hunters to access hunting opportunities with a new digital booking system. Through one streamlined platform hunters can:

  • create an account

  • book trips

  • receive Game Authorities via email

  • get automated reminders to submit take returns

By replacing a hybrid manual and digital process, the system delivers a more efficient, user-friendly experience and marks a significant advancement for both NRE Tas and recreational hunters.

These changes follow strong community feedback received during consultation on the 2025 Tasmanian Deer Management Review and support more effective wild deer population management, while providing greater access to public land for deer hunters.

836 submissions were received during the consultation period. These indicated broad support for simplified rules and expanded access to deer to achieve more effective population control.

We've also unlocked more public land for recreational deer hunting with an additional 10 areas covering approximately 23,538 hectares.

These new areas are in addition to the nine areas that were opened in 2021, covering 38,070 hectares.

The total number of deer hunting areas managed by us is now 19. These cover 61,608 hectares.
