New Threatened Species Fund announced

To celebrate National Threatened Species Day, which was Saturday 7 September 2024, the new Threatened Species Fund was announced.

The fund includes $8 million over four years to directly support conservation activities for priority threatened species.

The $2 million per year Threatened Species Fund will be invested across four streams.

  • High priority species conservation programs

  • Strategic partnerships

  • Decision making tools, data and guidelines to support careful management of our priority threatened species

  • Emergency preparedness and response.

We all have a role to play in protecting our native species. The new fund will help address high priority species conservation needs, as well as support collaboration through leveraging expertise, building knowledge and support planning and decision making.

Threatened Species Day also marks an opportunity to recognise the important work volunteers, conservationists and researchers do in collaboration with Government to protect our species.
