Recycle Rewards is here

Tasmania’s new container refund scheme Recycle Rewards has commenced.

Recycle Rewards is a key initiative of the Tasmanian Government to reduce litter and create clean streams of recycled materials that will help build Australia’s circular economy.

People can now return eligible drink containers to a designated refund point across the state and receive a 10 cent refund, which will significantly reduce litter and increase recycling rates.

Tasmanians can also choose to donate the proceeds to one of over 120 official Donation Partners.

Drink containers make up to 45% of Tasmania’s litter by volume and the Scheme aims to reduce this by half, create new economic opportunities, generate new jobs and turn drink containers into new recycled products.

The Scheme Coordinator, TasRecycle, is a not-for-profit entity and helps run the financial and administrative aspects of the scheme, and they also do the marketing and promotion. The Network Operator TOMRA Cleanaway is responsible for the refund point network and payments to the public. The Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania (NRE Tas) regulates and provides general oversight of the scheme.

Recycle Rewards is a phased roll-out of a network of 49 refund points established across the state, including on King and Flinders Islands.
