Supporting the restoration of Tasmania's valuable built heritage

Recipients of the Built Heritage Grants Scheme Conservation Program have been announced.

Under the Conservation Program, small grants of up to $20,000 were available for conservation works to Tasmanian heritage listed properties. These smaller grants were designed to support owners of these properties to conserve and restore these places so that they can be enjoyed for generations to come.

In total more than $300,000 will be distributed across the state to support owners of heritage listed places to undertake conservation and restoration activities under this program, 19 sites in total.

The sites span from the Meander Valley to the state’s east coast, where owners and custodians of Tasmania’s heritage listed places will undertake structural repairs to roofs, verandas and stained-glass windows.

Some of the properties that received funding under the program include:

  • Southern Tasmania’s Claremount House - to undertake a range of works both external and internal including the removal and replacement of rendering to masonry walls, timberwork, cladding, guttering and down water pipes.
  • Queenstown’s Paragon Theatre - to repair and enhance its exterior  including removing non-original metal cladding, fixing large cracks in the exterior walls to prevent further rainwater infiltration and a general refurbishment of the facade by stripping and repainting.
  • Hagley’s the Parish of Quamby - St Mary’s Anglican Church – to restore the twelve panelled East Window to further ensure safety and the building’s history

These grants are designed to support Tasmania’s valuable built heritage assets and to help ensure they are not only valued and maintained but also can be appreciated for generations to come.

The Conservation Program received a large amount of interest from the heritage community, those who were unsuccessful this round will have another opportunity to apply for funds during the next round of the grants scheme which will be offered later this year.

More information on the grants and the full list of recipients are available on the Built Heritage Grants Scheme webpage.
