Entrance to Trout Weekend

Trout Weekend is set to return to the Inland Fisheries Service (IFS) Liawenee Field Station on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 May.

This year Trout Weekend goes back to its roots as an outdoor event celebrating and focusing on the wild brown trout spawning run.

Crowd favourites are back, including wild brown trout ova stripping and live fish displays.

Swing by for a chat with IFS staff about angler access, fisheries projects, carp control and compliance operations.

Biosecurity Tasmania will be there to talk about how you can play your part in protecting Tasmania’s environment and primary industries from the spread of potentially harmful aquatic pests, weeds and diseases by taking simple steps such as cleaning your boat and gear between fishing sites and sticking to established paths when out and about angling.

Visit the Marine and Safety Tasmania (MAST) display to find out about safe boating, rules and regulations and boating infrastructure, and check out the flare demonstrations which will be happening across the weekend.

Hydro Tasmania will have plenty of useful information for Tasmanian trout anglers, as well as kids’ STEM activities and giveaways up for grabs.

Bring your walking boots and enjoy a stroll down Liawenee Canal to see the working fish trap. This is a nice 3km return walk that will take about 1 hour.

There will be food and drinks available to buy.

This year there will be no junior angling ponds, and to make sure the event is COVID-safe there are no trade stalls, cooking demonstrations or fish smoking displays.

Trout Weekend 2022 is all outside, so make sure you check the weather and come prepared for the cold conditions of Tasmania’s central highlands – snow, rain, hail and sun!

See you at Liawenee for Trout Weekend 2022!
