War on weeds

Stage 3 of the Weeds Action Fund (WAF) is now open.

Weeds are a significant threat to Tasmania’s environment and Stage 3 of the WAF will invest $1.4 million to tackle the problem.

The program will focus on six projects that cover priority weeds and key regions of the state including established and emerging agricultural and environmental weeds.

The WAF has already delivered $3.6m to on-ground weed management projects under Stages 1 and 2. Past funded projects have successfully tackled serrated tussock in pasture, orange hawkweed, stemless thistle, horehound and gorse.

Through WAF Stage 2, NRM North supported the delivery of 61 projects, which saw more than 14,000 hectares of land contracted for treatment and an average co-investment of 60 per cent from grant recipients.

Stage 3 of the WAF is administered by NRE Tas. Applications will close on Monday, 26 May 2025.

To find out more visit the Tasmanian Weeds Action Fund webpage or contact weeds.action.fund@nre.tas.gov.au.

Landholders with projects still underway from Stage 2 will continue to receive support from their respective region’s NRM organisation.
