The 2023 exhibit from the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania (NRE Tas) will showcase how divisions across our agency and the community work towards delivering a sustainable Tasmania, through an array of engaging displays and activities for all ages.
What’s in store this year?
Tasmania Parks and Wildlife
Visit the Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service interactive exhibit to learn how our programs support the protection of cultural and natural values in parks and reserves, while facilitating great experiences and the Tasmanian way of life. PWS will have a number of roving rangers on site to answer questions from the public as well as promoting our Leave No Trace and fire safety messages.
Biosecurity Tasmania
The Biosecurity team will be onsite answering questions and helping to raise Agfest visitors’ awareness on important biosecurity issues including:
- emerging pest and disease threats
- livestock biosecurity and welfare
- invasive weeds
- bee biosecurity
- the General Biosecurity Duty (GBD).
The GBD means that we all have a part to play in helping protect Tasmania’s primary industries, economy, environment, and our way of life from the harmful impacts of pests, weeds and diseases.
Biosecurity will also have a high interaction ‘Biosecurity Basics’ display for children, separate to their main station inside the tent, which you should be sure to check out.
The TassieCat team will be joining forces with BT once again to talk about responsible cat ownership and agricultural diseases associated with cats.
Agriculture and Water
AgriGrowth Tasmania will be focused on promoting FarmPoint as the centralised point of contact for farming enquiries and providing information on the AgriFood Scorecard.
Safe Farming Tasmania will be encouraging discussions about health and safety on farms.
Game Services Tasmania will be available to discuss how they support landholders to manage browsing wildlife and farm deer.
Heritage and Land Tasmania
The team from HLT will be back showcasing an array of LIST products and services, including Heritage Register data, Enterprise Suitability and Climate data, and Elevation and Imagery Products. Come down for a chat and see how they use technology to support the community, industry, and visitors to the state.
Careers at NRE Tas
Our See It. Dream It. Do It. Project (SIDIDI) is a must see for the younger generation thinking about their future careers. There will be a particular emphasis this year on encouraging women into careers within NRE where women are under represented or into careers in remote places in Tasmania.
Visitors at the SIDIDI display will have a chance to talk about the wide range of careers on offer within the agency, different pathways available and they can have their photo taken as a park ranger, surveyor, wildlife officer or biosecurity officer.
Where to find us
The NRE Tas exhibit display at Agfest 2023 is certainly not one to be missed. We'll have all our different divisions under the one roof (or tent) so come and find us at S70 and S72 on South Street, Quercus Park Carrick from 4 May to 6 May. We look forward to seeing you there!
