​How does the cadetship​ work?

  • work full-time with NRE Tas and be supported to study your undergraduate degree part-time (2 subjects per Semester)

  • be paid a full-time salary and receive paid time off to attend lectures, tutorials, and exams

  • experience several placements across the department’s diverse program areas of Primary Industries and Water, Parks and Wildlife Service, Environment Heritage and Lands, and Strategy and Business Services

What skill​​s do I need?

We are looking for applicants who have an interest in leadership and management. Applicants must recently have commenced a relevant degree course or prior to commencing the cadetship be enrolled for entry in a degree course. Cadets are required to work up to full-time hours (36.75 hours per week) for a period of up to 6 years. Applicants should have work rights to allow for this.


What will I be​​ paid?

Cadets are paid as full-time employees under the Tasmanian State Service Award and receive paid time off to attend lectures, tutorials, and exams over and above normal leave entitlements.

Starting salary is currently $50,204 per annum for a first-year student, but this may be higher depending on how far you are through your degree. You also receive 10 percent employer contributions to your superannuation and all the added benefits that come with working for the State Service.

You will be involved in exciting projects, undertaking a wide range of research and administrative activities to acquire a broad range of skills and knowledge. Together we will support you to develop a future career in management through ongoing training and skills development.
