Vendor Declarations
Vendor Declarations and Other Records

Vendor Declarations
A vendor declaration is now required by legislation to be supplied to the receiver of the stock for all transactions involving cattle, sheep, pigs or goats. This includes property-to-property sales and all other changes of ownership.
A copy must be kept by both parties for a minimum of
2 years for cattle and pigs
, and
7 years for sheep and goats
.
Most people will need to use the industry-developed Livestock Production Assured National Vendor Declaration for all transactions involving cattle or sheep to ensure that their stock attracts the best price (call LPA NVD on 1800 683 111 or go to
www.mla.com.au/lpa
). You should check with your saleyard agent, abattoir or purchaser to see if they require the accredited form to remain compliant with industry.
However, provided all the required information is provided other declaration forms can legally be used. The following information must be provided in the Vendor Declaration under Tasmanian legislation.
The name of the vendor and an address where the vendor can be contacted.
The name of the person in charge of the stock at the place of origin (if not the vendor) and an address and telephone number where that person may be contacted.
The address and property identification code for the place of origin.
Whether or not the stock were bred at the place of origin.
The number of stock moved and a description that identifies their class by breed, age and sex.
The name of the purchaser or saleyard and agent consigned to.
The date on which the stock are moved.
The address and property identification code for the destination.
The name of the person transporting the stock (if not the vendor) and an address and telephone number where that person may be contacted.
The signature of the person providing the Vendor Declaration.
Additional Movement Records for Sheep and Goats
For all transactions the vendor declaration provides the movement record and a copy must be kept by both parties for a minimum of 7 years.
For all other movements where there has not been a change of ownership (such as agistment, shows etc.) a paper record of the movement details must be kept by both parties for a minimum of 7 years.
The following information must be kept in the movement record:
the date on which the animals are moved from the place of origin;
the name and address of the person in charge of the animals at the place of origin;
the number of animals and a description that identifies their class by breed, age and sex;
the property identification code for the place of origin
the address and, if there is one, the property identification code for the destination.
