The 2019 Bee Industry Futures Report identified the need to quantify the Tasmanian beekeeping industry. To address this need, NRE Tas worked with industry to develop a survey of Tasmanian beekeepers for the 2018-19 season.
In October 2021, a second survey for the 2020-21 period was distributed to beekeepers to allow an updated estimate of the value, size and structure of the beekeeping industry.
In September 2022, NRE Tas released the Survey Report summarising the results of the 2020-21 survey. The Survey Report shows that the value of the industry, including honey, bee products and pollination services, was valued at $15.3 million in 2020-21. This is an increase of 59 per cent from the value reported in the 2018-19 baseline survey.
