The Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (SSAA) Farmer Assist Program is a free, nationally coordinated service that connects farmers and landholders with accredited volunteer hunters to support pest and feral animal management.
Operated through a central online platform, the program allows landholders to post pest-control requests and select from vetted SSAA members who have applied to be in the program. All participating volunteers are trained, having completed firearm proficiency assessments and committed to strict codes covering safety, ethics, and animal welfare.
Landholders retain full control at all times, including choosing volunteers, setting access times, and enforcing property-specific rules and biosecurity requirements.
All volunteers are covered by SSAA's $20 million public liability insurance, providing added assurance and reducing risk for landholders. The program also operates in line with state firearms laws, safety protocols, and humane practices.
The program will support the delivery of the Government's election commitment, strengthen biosecurity and invasive species management, and encourage collaboration between farming and hunting communities.
