The $5 billion Future Drought Fund is part of the Australian Government’s Drought Response, Resilience and Preparedness Plan.
It provides secure, continuous funding to help farmers and communities become more prepared for, and resilient to, the impacts of drought.
$100 million will be invested from the Future Drought Fund across Australia every year for projects to help strengthen drought resilience.
The Tasmanian Government is coordinating the delivery of two Future Drought Fund programs in Tasmania:
Farm Business Resilience program will be delivered by the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania
Regional Drought Resilience Planning program is to be delivered by the Department of Premier and Cabinet. For more information regarding this program visit Department of Premier and Cabinet.
These two programs run until 2023-24 are jointly funded through the Australian Government’s Future Drought Fund and the Tasmanian Government.
Farm Business Resilience program
The Farm Business Resilience program is designed to give farmers the tools they need to prepare for and manage risk, adapt to a changing climate and improve farm business resilience.
Through this program farmers, including farm managers and employees, will be guided to identify and prioritise learning needs and practical on-farm actions to take forward through their farm business plan.
A mix of small group training and one-on-one coaching will help farmers turn their plan into reality. Subsidised learning and development opportunities will cover areas including strategic business management, farm risk management and decision-making, natural resource management, and personal and social resilience.
A pilot for Tasmanian dairy farm businesses commenced in May 2022, in partnership with DairyTas. Following evaluation of the pilot, the program will be rolled out to other sectors in 2023.
More information about this program will be available here over the coming months. You can also stay informed by emailing email@example.com
