Small scale survey (i.e.
Regional - 1:100 000) capability maps have been produced by the Department and are available either as field-mapped (surveyed) or modelled maps.
For the locations shown in green on the map below capability maps and reports have been produced by the Department through field survey techniques requiring considerable field work.
For the remaining areas, represented as pink areas below, maps have been generated by computer modelling using available digital information and rules for capability developed during the field mapping phase for other map sheets. Very limited field checking has been undertaken yet the maps are considered to provide a reliable representation of land capability at the 1:100 000 map scale.
Reports for the individual map sheets have not been prepared. An overview of the modelling process and its limitations, together with a summary of the land classes to be found on each modelled map sheet, is in preparation.
(Note: Some report files are large (up to 3MB) and may take some time to download depending on system speed). All maps and reports can also be provided on CD or in hard copy format by contacting the officer below.
For information about the Land Capability Classification System and interpreting maps and reports please refer to the Land Capability Handbook.
