Animal Ethics Committee
The Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania (NRE Tas) Animal Ethics Committee (AEC) has been established to consider proposals to conduct scientific or educational projects that involve animals.
The NRE Tas AEC services NRE Tas Divisions and can assess applications to conduct animal research from external institutions who do not have their own AEC, where there is considered to be significant public benefit from the research and where a formal NRE Tas AEC sharing agreement is in place.
AEC approval is required under the Tasmanian Animal Welfare Act 1993 (the Act) and the Australian code for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes, 8th Edition, 2013 (the Code).
