Storm Bay off Trumpeter Bay North Bruny Island Marine Farming Development Plan August 2018

​Huon Aquaculture Pty Ltd (Huon) applied for amendment No. 3 to the Storm Bay off Trumpeter Bay North Bruny Island Marine Farming Development Plan July 1998 (the Plan). 

The amendment: 

  • extends the Marine Farming Development Plan (MFDP) area to create a new marine farming zone (Zone 5 – Yellow Bluff) with a maximum leasable area of 230 hectares

  • extends the Plan area to modify four existing marine farming zones 1, 2, 3 and 4 – (south of Trumpeter Bay) by increasing the maximum leasable area from 50 to 75 hectares for each zone, and rotating the zones by 18 degrees clockwise

  • increases the leasable area for salmonid farming operations within Storm Bay by 330 hectares​​

​​​Planning process and supporting documents​

Following the public exhibition, the Marine Farming Planning Review Panel​ received a report from the Planning Authority (PA) containing:

  1. a copy of each representation received;

  2. a copy of each request for a hearing received;​

  3. a detailed response from Huon Aquaculture Company Pty Ltd in relation to major issues raised in each representation; 

  4. the PA’s statement of its opinion as to the merit of each representation and the impact on the draft amendment as a whole; and

  5. ​recommendations in relation to the draft amendment.​

The Panel conducted public hearings and undertook detailed consideration of the draft amendment, before making a recommendation to the Minister in relation to the draft amendment, as set out in the Panel’s report (below). 

The amendment was approved 4 September 2018. The amendment and the original MFDP, as well as amendments No. 1 and N​o. 2, have been incorporated into a single document.
