Foot-and-Mouth Disease

Information about foot-and-mouth disease and how to keep it out of Australia and Tasmania.

'Australia is free of FMD - You can help keep it that way!'

Australia is free from foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) and we all want to keep it that way.

FMD is present in a range of locations throughout the world, most recently detected in Indonesia-Bali. Due to the proximity to Australia, the largely uncontrolled nature of the FMD infection in that region, and the high volumes of passenger traffic into Australia from Indonesia-Bali, the Commonwealth government and Australian states and territories have strengthened their FMD awareness and information campaigns.

Further information is available in our FMD Frequently Asked Questions. At any time you suspect an emergency animal disease such as FMD, please call the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline: 1800 675 888
