‘Biosecurity’ is the protection of Tasmanian industries, the environment and public well-being, health, amenity and safety from the negative impacts of pests, diseases and weeds.
A combination of Tasmania’s island geography and some of the strictest biosecurity requirements in the country help underpin our world-class primary production, globally recognised tourism industry, unique environment and enviable way of life.
In 2022, with support from Biosecurity Tasmania, the Biosecurity Advisory Council (as appointed under the Biosecurity Act 2019) began a review of the Tasmanian Biosecurity Strategy 2013-2017, with the aim to prepare an updated document for 2023-2027 to align with our contemporary biosecurity legislation.
An updated draft Strategy was prepared for public consultation in late 2022 and following this consultation period, comments were reviewed and a final version of The Tasmanian Biosecurity Strategy has been released.
The Tasmanian Biosecurity Strategy is the high-level document that sets the overall direction for Tasmania's biosecurity system.
