>>> PLEASE NOTE <<<

On 17 May 2023, all requirements and conditions for importing animals and animal products into Tasmania were fully enacted under the Tasmanian Biosecurity Act 2019, (replacing the now repealed Animal Health Act 1995).

These import requirements and conditions can now be found within one easy to access document, the Tasmanian Animal Biosecurity Manual (TABM):

Please make a note of the address for this new Manual, as the webpage you are currently viewing is scheduled to be archived.

Please contact Biosecurity Tasmania for further information on tel. 03 6165 3777, or email Biosecurity.Tasmania@nre.tas.gov.au

Wildlife species listed in schedules 5 and 9 of the Nature Conservation (Wildlife) Regulations 2021 are not available for the public to import. Species under other schedules may be imported subject to discretionary approval. For detailed information about importing approved wildlife from interstate refer to Wildlife Imports.

In addition to any import requirements listed on this webpage, you will also need to meet relevant requirements under the Nature Conservation Act 2002.

The Nature Conservation Act 2002 governs the importation and keeping of wildlife in Tasmania. If you wish to import any animal that is not classified as domestic dog, domestic cat or domestic stock (see schedule 7 of the Nature Conservation (Wildlife) Regulations 2021 for a list of species), you will need to contact Wildlife Services to apply for an import permit.
