Buying Livestock

​​​​The Biosecurity (Livestock Traceability) Regulations 2024 provide requirements for buying or keeping on a property identif​​​iable livestock (sheep, goats, cattle, pigs).

​Before you buy or move identifiable livestock to the premises where you will be keeping them, you must first apply for a:

  • Property Identification Code (PIC)

  • NLIS account for sheep, goats and cattle

  • PigPass account for pigs. 

When these livestock arrive at the premises where they are being kept, you must:

  • ensure they are correctly identified with an eID or visual tag

  • keep the vendor declaration/movement document

  • record the movement details on NLIS/PigPass.
