PigPass

What is PigPass?

PigPass is underpinned by State and Territory legislation across Australia. It is designed to link pigs to a Property Identification Code (PIC), tag or brand/tattoo, and PigPass National Vendor Declaration (NVD) movement document. Together, these food safety and traceability systems help domestic and global market opportunities for the pork industry through high levels of product assurance.

Why do I need to have a PigPass account?

Being able to quickly identify the location of pigs is critical to biosecurity, disease outbreak, chemical residue issues and food safety. Effective traceability supports our farmers and other supply chain businesses and employees, livestock and economy. When livestock owners or operators don’t comply with the legal requirements, it places the supply chain and livestock at significant risk.

It is important that you take responsibility for referring to the PigPass website to understand the requirements and rationale for pig identification and traceability.

How do I get an account?

To register for a PigPass account, you need to have a Property Identification Code (PIC) issued by the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania. The Department provides authorisation for the purchase of accredited NLIS tags and brands/tattoos in Tasmania but registration is done directly with PigPass.
