The declaration of prohibited seeds under Section 20 of the Biosecurity Act 2019 (the Act) indicates that the seeds have been assessed as presenting a significant biosecurity risk to the State.
Once a seed has been declared to be prohibited matter under the Act, all dealings with the seed will be prohibited unless authorised under a group or individual permit. Unauthorised dealings with prohibited matter would attract significant penalties.
Group permits apply to general classes of persons and are published on this page. Group permits in respect of prohibited seeds have been issued to authorised poppy seed producers and industrial hemp producers.
A declaration of prohibited seeds under the Act was published in the Tasmanian Government Gazette on 04 August 2021. The list has been limited to seeds that have been dried, preserved or otherwise processed for the purpose of propagation.
