CHECK, CLEAN, DRAIN AND DRY!
Pests and diseases can be hidden in mud, soil and other materials carried on machinery, boats and other equipment.
We all have a general biosecurity duty to protect our primary industries, environment and way of life from harmful pests, weeds and diseases. You can help by ensuring that vehicles, machinery, boats and other equipment are free from dirt, water and other potential contaminants before they are transported to Tasmania.
Vehicles
Examples: Motor vehicles, towable trailer including horse floats, motorbikes, bicycles, scooters, caravans.
Allowed if: Fully cleaned, including the underside, wheel and wheel arches, trays or tubes, and floor mats, to remove any trace of mud, soil, seeds, plant material, insects, or other debris.
Not permitted entry: Any vehicle contaminated with plant material, soil, debris, or any other thing that may harbour pest or disease.
Extra tip: If the vehicle has not been adequately cleaned, it will be directed for cleaning (or other treatment as considered necessary) at a place and in a manner approved by Biosecurity Tasmania.

Not permitted entry: Any agricultural equipment or machinery entering Tasmania that does not comply:
- Will be directed for cleaning (or other treatment as considered necessary) at a place and in a manner approved by Biosecurity Tasmania – a substantial amount of dismantling may be required to prove no pockets of prescribed matter, soil etc. remain hidden.
OR
- If satisfactory treatment is not possible, the contaminated agricultural equipment or machinery will be re-exported.
All costs associated with cleaning or re-export will be the responsibility of the importer.
Extra tip: Harvesters are of particular concern to Biosecurity Tasmania, due to their substantial potential to carry prescribed matter into the State. A checklist and diagrams of required harvester cleaning procedures is provided in the Plant Biosecurity Manual Tasmania.
