Flora and Fauna Translocation

​What is translocation?

​​​Translocation is when humans move plants and animals from one location to another location where they are released into the wild.

​​​​​The Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania is in the process of reviewing its Flora and Fauna Translocation Policy. Further information will be updated here as information becomes available during the review process.​​

Do I need a permit for translocation?

Permits may be required under the Nature Conservation Act 2002 and the Threatened Species Protection Act 1995 for translocation activities in Tasmania. If the proposed activity is to take place on reserved land, an additional authority under the National Parks and Reserves Management Regulations 2019 will also be required. Permits may be required for fish under the Living Marine Resources Management Act 1995
