The content of the strategy has been used:
to guide the Department's approach to nature conservation and environmental biosecurity
by other natural resource managers to inform their approach to the protection of Tasmania's natural heritage values
The strategy recognises that Tasmania's natural environment is faced with a broad range of challenges, including:
These challenges will pose continuing and new issues for conservation in Tasmania.
Since the Strategy's development there has been growing national and international emphasis on being able to respond quickly and effectively to new information and changing priorities, leading to an adaptive management approach that is better able to respond to new circumstances.
The Strategy was developed in consultation with a broad range of stakeholders, and was designed to complement national approaches to natural heritage conservation.
The Strategy remains a useful guide to action.
