In 2007-2009, the Department undertook a review of the Natural Resource Management (NRM) Framework and the Natural Resource Management Act 2002.
The Final Report was produced following significant stakeholder and public consultation about the performance of the NRM Framework and legislation over the previous five years and ways in which it might be improved.
The Final Report contained 18 recommendations to improve and refine the NRM framework. The recommendations covered matters including the setting of State NRM priorities, the functions and membership of the Regional Committees, and the operation of the NRM Council. The bulk of the recommendations, including those requiring legislative amendments, were completed by June 2009. All of the Final Report's recommendations were implemented by the end of 2009.
