The TassieCat Project

The TassieCat Project is a state-wide initiative to encourage and facilitate responsible cat ownership and management in Tasmania.

The Project is funded by the Tasmanian Government through the Tasmanian Cat Management Program and supported by Cradle Coast NRM, Ten Lives, and NRM North who each host a regional cat co-ordinator.

Each co-ordinator works with councils in their region encouraging greater local government participation, building community awareness, development of education materials to encourage better levels of responsible cat ownership, and provides support for compliance with the Cat Management Act 2009.

The TassieCat Project has developed and maintains the TassieCat website. It provides advice and resources to help owners keep cats safe, healthy and happy while protecting the environment and the community.

The Project has produced four short videos featuring Scruffy the Cat that focus on the importance of:

  • microchipping
  • desexing
  • cats being happy indoors, and
  • working to reduce the number of stray cats.
