Compilation of Surveys
When compiled plans for registration in the Central Plan
Office are requested or can be utilised instead of actual survey, the following
guidelines with respect to the required error of closure for the area compiled,
are provided.
Where the area is
compiled from surveys carried out prior to 1909, the error of closure must not
exceed that of the original surveys and need not be greater than 1 in 600.
Where the area is compiled from surveys
carried out between 1909 and 1946, in rural areas the error of closure must not
exceed 1 in 600, and in towns must not exceed 1 in 1000.
Where the area is compiled from surveys carried out between
1946 and 1966, in rural areas the error of closure must not exceed 1 in 2000,
and in towns must not exceed 1 in 4000.
Where the area is compiled from surveys carried out since 1966, the
error of closure shall be in accordance with current regulations.
It is to be appreciated that surveys
could be compiled from information extending over any of the above mentioned
periods, and in those instances the maximum error of closure required shall
apply.
If areas cannot be compiled to
the required error of closure it is to be considered that unsatisfactory survey
information prevents the compilation of the plan and a survey may be
necessary.
