Within Tasmania only surveyors with the Land competency in the register of surveyors kept under the Surveyors Act 2002 are entitled to undertake surveys describing the location of legal interests on a parcel of land. This includes but is not limited to title, easment, covenant and building envelope boundaries, but not the specific surveys and plans listed in the Exempt Surveys Directions, Tasmania.
The Survey Directions, Tasmania have been prepared in accordance with the requirements of section 15 of the Surveyors Act 2002 and the purpose of the Directions is to set the technical specifications and standards to be observed in the conduct of surveys of land made for a statutory purpose, as prescribed in of the principal Act, and listed in Schedule 1 of the Directions.
Accordingly these Directions must be observed by all Registered Land Surveyors undertaking surveys of a legal interest on a parcel of land in Tasmania, which includes deciding whether improvements are, or are not, within the boundaries of any land.
Survey Checklists based upon the aspects included in the Survey Directions, Tasmania effective 1/10/2020 and LTO plan inspection are available here.
