About the Land Titles Office

The role and function of the Land Titles Office is to:
  • administer the system of land titles
  • register changes in interests in land
  • hold survey records
  • provide accurate and easily accessible records
The Office also provides title and cadastral related services to facilitate:
  • conveyancing
  • land development
  • land surveying
  • financial security
  • land information systems
The Recorder of Titles is the statutory officer responsible for providing the community with certainty of title to land. This is achieved by the development and administration of legislation and policy governing land dealings in Tasmania.

The Torrens title system underpins economic development through creating certainty when dealing with land.
