Requirement to lodge certificate of title or valid Production Slip Receipt
At the time of lodging a Registry Instrument or Application with the Land Titles Office (LTO), the certificate of title or valid Production Slip Receipt may also be required.
A certificate of title reflects the Register of land (the Register) at a specific point in time and displays some (but not necessarily all) of the registered estates or interests in land. For more information about certificates of title please see the Certificates of Title webpage.
A certificate of title (paper) may be lodged with the Registry Instrument or Application; or
A request may be made to the LTO to produce the certificate of title and when processed a Production Slip Receipt will be provided to you. The valid Production Slip Receipt may be lodged with the Registry Instrument or Application.
Production of certificate of title
Production of certificate of title is a request made by a party (the producing party) and the subsequent issue (by the LTO) of a Production Slip Receipt and is either:
To participate in electronic conveyancing the production of certificate of title must be irrevocable.
To participate in paper conveyancing the production of certificate of title may be either irrevocable or not.
Definitions and information
Certificate of title reflects the Register at a specific point in time. A certificate of title displays some (but not necessarily all) of the registered estates or interests in land. A certificate of title is issued at a point in time and may be held by a party (paper) or may be held by the LTO on behalf of a party (HOBO).
Held on behalf of (HOBO) means a formal arrangement between a party and the LTO for the LTO to 'hold' all certificates of title for that party from an agreed date. The producing party will need to request production of certificate of title for certificates of title held under HOBO arrangements.
Irrevocable means that the producing party cannot, for the irrevocable period, cancel the production of certificate of title, except as outlined below – see Cancellation of production of certificate of title.
Irrevocable period means thirty (30) days from the date of production.
Title Reference means the Volume and Folio of the Register.
Location of certificate of title
A party that intends to lodge Registry Instruments and other Documents needs to ascertain the location of the relevant certificate of title.
To ascertain the location of the relevant certificate of title, use The LIST (Land Information System Tasmania).
Navigate to: the LIST > Properties & Titles > Properties and Titles
Enter the Volume and Folio (title reference) of the title you wish to locate, click Search, and from the Search Results, click Select Products
The Location of Certificate will display information about the certificate of title

Request production to obtain a Production Slip Receipt
A request to produce certificate of title is made by completing a production slip which is accessed through the Tasmanian Online Land Dealings (TOLD) System.
A party that intends to lodge Registry Instruments and other Documents needs to ascertain the location of the relevant certificate of title (refer to the section above). If that title is:
A. If the certificate of title is in paper form and in your physical possession:
NOTE:
a paper certificate of title can be lodged with the Registry Instruments OR
A1. Prepare the Production Slip in TOLD; Print the Production Slip (request) and together with the paper certificate of title forward to the LTO for processing
A2. Receive the Production Slip Receipt (which can then be lodged with the Registry Instruments)
OR
B. If the certificate of title is held by the LTO on your behalf:
B1. Prepare the Production Slip in TOLD
B2. Lodge the Production Slip in TOLD
Note: this is available to those TOLD Subscribers with the designated authority in TOLD as approved by your organisation
B3. Access the Production Slip Receipt using the Correspondence menu in TOLD

C. If the certificate of title has already been produced by you / your organisation:
C1. Locate the Production Slip Receipt and consider what arrangements are required
OR
D. If the certificate of title has already been produced and is held by the LTO under production for another party:
D1. Contact that party to make arrangements
OR
E. If the certificate of title was issued and dispatched to another party:
E1. Contact that party to make arrangements
Request cancellation of production
Note: A request to cancel production of certificate of title will not be actioned if:
- The request is prior to lodgement of Registry Instruments and other Documents, the production of certificate of title was selected as irrevocable, is within the irrevocable period and consent has not been obtained from all parties
- The request is after lodgement of Registry Instruments and other Documents and consent has not been obtained from all parties.

A request to cancel is to be made via email to lto@nre.tas.gov.au
Where the request to cancel production of certificate of title is prior to lodgement of Registry Instruments and other Documents:
1. And the request is not selected as irrevocable, the request to cancel production of certificate of title will be reviewed and cancelled.
2. And the request is selected as irrevocable:
2a. And the request is within the 30 day irrevocable period and consent has been obtained from all parties, the request to cancel production of certificate of title will be reviewed and cancelled.
2b. And the request is after the 30 day irrevocable period, the request to cancel production of certificate of title will be reviewed and cancelled.
Where the request to cancel production of certificate of title is after lodgement of Registry Instruments and other Documents:
3. And consent has been obtained from all parties, the request to cancel production of certificate of title will be reviewed and cancelled.
