Act 1998 – Current Reform.
Review, Discussion Paper and Consultation
The Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment further reviewed the Strata Titles Act 1998 (the Act). A Discussion Paper was developed during 2020, focusing on 18 areas of strata living requiring review in consideration of changes in the strata environment since 1998.
The areas of focus were selected based on a number of factors including: responses to the earlier 2018 consultation paper in which 13 key issues, and options for dealing with them were addressed; reviews in other jurisdictions; and practical experience in applying the Act.
The 2020 Discussion Paper provided a brief description of each focus area, outlined the current legislative situation in Tasmania and some other States, and discussed similarities and differences in each State's approach. It then offered some questions for consideration. The Department consulted with interested stakeholders and sought feedback on the 2020 Discussion Paper.

Consultation Feedback Report
Subsequent to the consultation and submission process, a Consultation Feedback Report was prepared. This 2021 report summarises and addresses the focus areas. The 2021 report summarises the feedback and submissions, making response to the consultation feedback, and providing the basis for legislative amendment.
