Proposed Amendments to the Land Acquisition Act

Amendment of the Land Acquisition Act 1993 has been proposed to provide for the use of an electronic signature for correspondence from the Valuer-General to enable the electronic service of Notices to Treat and Notices of Acquisition.

The Office of the Valuer-General published an Issues Paper and had consultation with the key stakeholders that have had an interest or role in the land acquisition process.

The consensus was that the amendments to the Act to enable electronic signature and service of documents will streamline the process significantly.

The Land (Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill 2020 has been drafted by the Office of Parliamentary Counsel and was made available for public consultation until 16 July 2020.
