How can I search on the TASMAP eShop?
You can search for products via the TASMAP web page using the search form located on the left side of many of the TASMAP pages. The search form allows users to search on keywords including map names, product descriptions, barcode numbers and map numbers. You can also search for maps based on locality or suburb names.
For instance if you search on the keyword "hobart" all the maps that have the keyword hobart in their description will be returned along with all the maps that are wholly or partially over the Hobart suburb. Note that searching is not case sensitive.
TASMAP mapping indexes now on LISTmap
Land Tasmania has enhanced LISTmap to enable users to navigate to the mapping products directly from the map indexes available on LISTmap. Available for the National Park Map Index and the 1:25,000, 1:50,000, 1:100,000 & 1:250,000 Topographic Indexes, they link through to the TASMAP eShop where each product is available for purchase as either a hard-copy map or digital product.
The layers are all publicly available in LISTmap using the “Layers → Add Layer” button then navigating to the categories “Imagery and Maps → Map Indexes” in the “Manage Layers” popup box.
To view the links to the TASMAP products, single click on the desired map index and then click on “View Link” next to either the “TASMAP Topographic Map” or the “TASMAP Digital Map” fields. The links will take the user to the corresponding TASMAP web pages.

How do I purchase and download my digital map?
Once you have logged in, chosen your required maps and payed through the
CHECKOUT tab on the webpage, your digital products will be available from the
MY DOWNLOADS tab, located on the top menu bar.
You will be able to see all the purchased maps and have the option to download each by clicking on the
Download button to the right of the product. This will then download a .zip file to your selected location.
For each series mapping product purchased (1:25 000, 1:100 000, 1:250 000) you will receive a GeoTIFF and KMZ for download, while for the 1:50 000 and National Park Walk and Recreation maps you also receive a GeoPDF in addition.
As well as being used within mobile devices, GeoTIFFs can also be imported into any GIS packages such as ArcMap or Mapinfo.
How do I load a GeoPDF or GeoTIFF into my mobile device?
To utilise a GeoPDF or GeoTIFF on a smartphone or tablet there are many applications on the market that will enable this. One option is by using the after-market Avenza Maps app which is a free download from the App Store or Google Play.
Once you have an app installed on your device it is easy to transfer
TASMAP products to your device either through Dropbox or any file manager program.
Once you have maps loaded they will appear in the maps list in the app on your device along with the distance the area on the map is from where you are actually standing (if location is enabled on your phone). You simply click on the map you want to view and it appears on the screen. You will see it shows the co-ordinates of the spot you are looking at and if you are actually standing in the map coverage you can hit the button (Either resembles a crosshair or an arrow, depending on version) and it will locate you on the map. You can also add waypoints, geotagged photos and record GPS tracks as you move around.
How do I use the KMZ file within Google Earth?
The KMZ files can be dropped straight into Google Earth by simply double clicking the file once downloaded. The map will automatically locate itself and you can zoom, rotate, change your point of view and add transparency.

What is a map datum?
A
map datum defines a mathematical surface and the origin point for the
coordinate system that is used to depict the location objects on the
surface of the Earth.
TASMAP products are based on one of three different
horizontal datums, depending on the date of publication. All new maps
published after 1 March 2020 are based on the Geocentric Datum of Australia 2020 (GDA2020). Maps published between 1 March 2020
and 31 March 2003 are based on the Geocentric Datum of Australia 1994
(GDA94). All maps published prior to that date, are based on the
Australian Geodetic Datum 1966 (AGD66).
To keep up with
modern technology and the increasing demands for accuracy of today's
society, Australia has modernised its Datum to GDA 2020. To learn more
about GDA2020 go to the Datum Modernisation webpage.
What datum should I input into my GPS unit?
Refer to horizontal datum indicated within the map legend. Depending on the map this should be either the Australian Geodetic Datum 1966 (AGD66), the Geocentric Datum of Australia 1994 (GDA94) or the Geocentric Datum of Australia 2020 (GDA2020). Note in some GPS systems GDA94 or GDA 2020 is not an option, in this case use the World Geodetic System 1984 (WGS84). You will also need to set the position format to either UTM (Standard Map Grid) or Latitude/Longitude (Degrees, Minutes and Seconds). Note on some GPS units Latitude/Longitude may be shown as ddd°mm'sss" (or something similar).
How do I know which datum a map is based on?
All
TASMAP products state the datum in the border information.
How do I convert coordinates from one datum to another?
Comprehensive explanatory information about GDA94 and the new GDA2020 and ATRF2014, including how to move between them, is available from the Australian Geospatial Reference System pages whilst a general overview of maps, mapping and datums and reference frames is available from the ICSM fundamentals of mapping section.
Will the change to GDA2020 affect contours and heights?
No. The datum used for heights has not changed. It remains the Australian Height Datum (Tasmania) which is based on mean sea level.
What is GDA2020 and how will it affect me?
To keep up with modern technology and the increasing demands for accuracy of today's society, Australia has modernised its Datum. To learn more about GDA2020 go to the Datum Modernisation webpage.
