Rulers and Guides

​​​​​​​​​The Recreational Fisheries section produces a range of free rulers, measures and fishing guides to help fishers stay within the law.


These products are available for tackle shops, visitor centres or other organisations including Service Tasmania shops to order.

  • Sea Fishing Guide 2021-22Recreational Sea Fishing Guide - a printed guide covering all recreational fishing rules. Also available online.

  • Scalefish rulers - plastic for use in your tackle box.

  • Boat sticker rulers - a fish ID guide for the gunwhale or seat of your boat.

  • Measuring gauges - used for rock lobster, abalone and scallops, these are available from Service Tasmania outlets.

  • Fishing Hot Spot Maps - A4 tear-off fishing guides including colour maps with fishing hot spots in eleven regions around Tasmania. To preview or print single colour PDFs go to: Fishing Hot Spot Maps.
  • Tas Fish Guide app flyer - brochures outlining the features of our free recreational fishing phone app.

  • Multi-language flyer - fishing information for non-English speakers in five languages.

For recreational fishers

  • You can pick up rulers and the Recreational Sea Fishing Guide from Service Tasmania, tackle shops and visitor centres throughout the state.
  • Measuring gauges are available from Service Tasmania shops and some tackle shops.
  • Fishes of Tasmania Posters are available to buy from Service Tasmania.
