Springs

Colour photograph showing picturesque scene of green springwater pond in green field, surrounded by trees.Springs occur where groundwater discharges naturally at the ground surface.

They often form at low points in the topography where the water table in an unconfined aquifer intersects the ground surface, or they may be the result of subsurface joints, faults or differences in permeability that direct water towards the ground surface under pressure from deeper confined aquifer.
