Urban Water

The Water and Sewerage Industry Act 2008 and the Water and Sewerage Corporations Act 2008 removed the responsibility for water and sewerage provision from local Councils and vested it in three regional water and sewerage corporations.  These were amalgamated to form TasWater in 2013.

The Urban Drainage Act 2013  is Tasmania's primary legislation governing the provision of urban stormwater drainage services by local councils.

The WELS Scheme came into effect in March 2005 under the Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards Act 2005. It is administered by the Australian Government on behalf of all the States and Territories, and is supported by an Intergovernmental Agreement and complementary State and Territory legislation, including Tasmania's Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards Act 2013.
