Found only in Tasmania, the Tasmanian froglet (Crinia tasmaniensis) is common throughout much of the State. It is often found at high altitudes. It is always found near water, either temporary or permanent ponds or running water.

The dorsal (upper) surface is patterned dark and light brown. The ventral (under) surface of the thighs and groin are often a brilliant red. It grows up to 30 mm long. Tadpoles take three to four months to complete their development.
