Applicant: Forico Pty Limited
Species/Taxon: Hoplogonus vanderschoori and Hoplogonus simsoni
Location: Private land in Pyengana, Mathinna, Derby and Goshen
Title of research: Targeted surveys for Hoplogonus vanderschoori and Hoplogonus simsoni
Aim of project: To determine presence of Hoplogonus spp. and potential habitat on Forico properties in the northeast of Tasmania
Justification: To improve understanding of the presence of these species within the resource and conservation/biodiversity areas of the Forico forest estate, enabling improved management thereof to avoid impact to the species
Maximum likely numbers of individuals involved: Unknown – hand-searching method to be used only
Activities undertaken and methods: As per Forest Practices Authority Technical Note 11, Stag Beetle Surveys, although modified according to site conditions, number of people, and resources (time). No trapping to be undertaken
Fate of animals: All live and dead animals and parts thereof to remain on site and be released at point of capture
Likely impact on species involved (including any by-catch): Brief disturbance of habitat and individuals only (temporary handling only for counting, identification and photography), all to be returned back to site of capture and habitat restored as practically as possible (e.g. shift logs and leaf litter back)
