Access to Public Land for Hunting

​​​Some public land can be accessed for hunting.

​​You must have an Authority document (also known as permission to shoot document) to hunt on reserved and crown land. You must apply for this before applying for a recreational/game hunting licence.

New Public Land Deer Hunting Areas

NRE Tas is soon to launch a new online booking system for recreational hunters to hunt deer on public land.

An additional 10 areas covering approximately 22,885 hectares will be added to the existing 9 areas covering 38,070 hectares – bringing the total number of deer hunting areas managed by NRE Tas to 19, covering 60,955 hectares.

The booking system will allow hunters to create a user account and book a hunting trip. The booking system will issue a Game Authority to the trip leader and follow up with automatic reminders to lodge on-line take returns from their hunting trips. ​

NOTE that you may not hunt or carry a firearm on public land unless you have a Game Authority, Hunting Licence and a Firearms Licence – penalties apply.​
